To borrow from FLARE’s Fashion Director, Tiyana Grulovic’s note about the new LVMH Prize for young designers, “This is huge. Literally everyone is involved”.

LVMH has just announced a Prize for Young Fashion Designers, an unprecedented opportunity for aspiring fashion designers around the world. I want to liken it to winning a golden ticket inside an eerie chocolate factory, but the Prize (with a capital “P”) is much more delicious than that. The jury, which will award the prize, includes Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (Kenzo), Phoebe Philo, Raf Simons, and Riccardo Tisci – all creative directors at LVMH fashion houses – and others of equal grandeur. No young designer could dream of a bigger opportunity, it just doesn’t exist.

The prize:

A grant of 300,000 euros as well as direct assistance from a new LVMH team formed to develop the Prize winner’s brand and company over the course of one year.

The selection process:

The Prize team will select a shortlist of 30 young designers from around the world – plenty of applications have already been received, but the contest will remain open until February 2, 2014. The shortlist of designers will present their collections to the panel of experts at LVMH headquarters during Paris fashion week. Experts will then vote on their ten favourite designers, which will then be presented to the Jury in May.

The panel of experts

Includes 30 of the industry’s most prominent players, from Linda Fargo, Senior Vice President of Bergdorf Goodman, to Patrick Demarchelier, Sarah Andelman, Tim Blanks and Pat McGrath.

Entering the contest

The contest remains open to fashion designers under the age of 40, from anywhere in the world. Designers are invited to enter via the official LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize Website. Canadian designers, this is your call to action – you have until February 2, 2014.

The prize winner will be announce in May 2014. The LVMH Prize will also recognize three young graduates with university degrees in fashion design – they will receive 10,000 euros and n invitation to join the design team at LVMH for one year.

Canadian designers, think you have what it takes? Enter the LVMH Prize here before February 2014 – and good luck!
