The red carpet was a playground for the fashionably clad at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards on Monday. With the who’s who of fashion stepping out in their best to watch Billy Reid take home top prize, there was another fashion darling that we think deserved a special mention. Carey Mulligan wowed crowds and dazzled in a sequin embroidered dress from Chanel’s Fall Haute Couture collection. Perhaps it was her victorious glow that had her looking so radiant—at the event the actress received a personal call from director Baz Luhrmann informing her that she had won the part of Daisy in The Great Gatsby adaptation. Whatever the case, the British beauty was tops in our books.
The chocolate-hued confection was worn with a matching cropped jacket that boasted gorgeous gold trimming and a brooch detail. The couture look felt modern and new when paired with her sleek side swept cropped do, although we wished she would have made another footwear choice. The suede brown ankle boots were far too clunky for this elegant ensemble and we would liked to have seen a chicer choice. Perhaps, a pair of Stella McCartney pointy-toe slingbacks could have added a bit more polish to this look. Nevertheless, Mulligan still stole the show and proved that she deserves the part of leading lady.
