It might be the season for (trying to) save money, but there’s already a new trending accessory flying off the shelves: the elephant bag.
The leather animal by Spanish luxury house Loewe has spiked in interest since the start of the year according to shopping site Lyst, with 307% more searches and 128% more sale conversions (than the brand’s average views and checkouts) in the first 10 days of the year. The elephant bag is officially the website’s most-viewed handbag of 2017 so far, having been searched for more than 18,000 times!
It’s easy to see why a wave of fashion influencers including Susie Bubble, Chiara Ferragni and Pandora Sykes are falling head-over-heels for the whimsical creature. The supple calf leather is bended and folded perfectly to form the shape of an elephant, with Dumbo-style floppy ears and a tiny perforated hole for the eye. It comes in four sizes—a bag charm, coin purse, mini bag and crossbody style—in a range of pastel and vibrant colours. However, the most popular shades are a dusty pink and rainbow striped print.
Across Instagram, women can be spotted clutching the little figurines like little pets: Hamburg-based Instagrammer Anita Hass describes the bag as a “mood booster on a super grey day.”
Unfortunately, Loewe’s animal bag requires some serious splurging, with the charm (the smallest of the herd) coming in at $810. Still tempted? We have a handy guide on how to buy an investment bag when you’re ready.
