Carven designer Guillaume Henry revved up FW13 in both show production —the headlights of stacked cars partially lit up the runway —and in design, hitting key notes of the season with oversized coats in porous textures, slender dresses and abbreviated knitwear.
At Lanvin, the words emblazoned on two major necklaces —’cool’ and ‘love’—easily summed up the audience’s reaction to this dazzling collection. Jewel-tone furs and insect motifs were particularly eye-catching. Whether it was the amplified embellishments, unexpected oxford shoes or killer handbags, there was something in the collection that spoke volumes to every fan of Lanvin.
I loved the darkly romantic vibe at Barbara Bui—a perfect transition from summertime bohemia. There’s so much emphasis on texture this season, but it’s really interesting to see how designers incorporate it on pants and skirts without adding bulk, as Bui did with a pair of marabou feathered pants. But the closing look easily stole the show, with Catherine McNeil breezing down the runway in a burnished gold skinny suit. Doesn’t get much cooler than that.
