The legendary sportswear designer has paired with French designer, Catherine Malandrino, for a four season collaboration. Though the collection won’t make its official debut in stores until mid-April, Lacoste is hoping to appeal to tech-savvy fashionistas, using blogs and other social media efforts, and has unveiled a sneak peek of the 12-piece spring line.
But don’t expect any standard, crocodile-emblazoned polos here. “Catherine has really opened our eyes to what Lacoste can represent,” CEO Steve Birkhold explained.
As the first of four, this line includes items such as white harem pants, pleated minis and sleek knit dresses. Of course the designs will feature the crocodile logo, but this time, with a twist: two kissing crocodiles, one green and one yellow. Malandrino has said of her interpretation, “People immediately know it’s Lacoste. Someone said it is the best symbol for a French kiss. It brings questions of emotions and sensuality, and that’s what I wanted to bring to Lacoste.” This is the first time in 80 years that the logo has ever been duplicated or rotated.
