Last spring, THOMAS design duo (and half brothers) Drew and Michael Thomas held their first show at the Clint Roenisch Gallery on Toronto’s Queen Street West in – a turn-of-the-century space packed with a select 100- standing room only invitees. This season, they made their debut at LG Fashion Week, with six hundred guests and the media watching. Quite the jump in a mere six months. THOMAS is best known for its unisex designs. For Spring/Summer 2011, they pushed this modern ideal even further. “This season throughout the whole collection, you’ll see that it’s completely androgynous,” says Michael Thomas. As a result, both male and female models modeled the line, wearing similar pieces in very different ways. They’ve also been applauded for taking a single concept and pushing it throughout their entire collection. This time around it was a minimal tank top. “The hardest part is getting that one initial piece of inspiration, or that one idea, or that one tank top,” says Thomas on their starting point. With their unique, delineated approach to fashion, we think THOMAS is primed for mutual adoration from the achingly cool kids – both male and female. — Caitlin Agnew
