Update July 8, 2015: Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana and Edita Vilkeviciute all star in the new Calvin Klein Underwear Fall 2015 campaign, shot by Mikael Jansson.
Rumours have been circulating for months, and today Calvin Klein finally confirmed that Kendall Jenner is the face of its #mycalvins Denim Series. Here, the model talks about how it feels to be part of the iconic brand, how she stays in shape, her thoughts on social media and more.
You’re one of the most talked about models in the world right now. How has your life changed over the past few years?
My life has changed a lot. I have a huge family that I’m very close to, so not seeing them as much as I used to is hard, but I get to go home every once in a while and see and hang out with them so its fine–and I’m doing what I like!
What is it that you love about the Calvin Klein Jeans brand?
I grew up seeing ‘Calvin Klein’ and knew it to be a brand that was very cool. You see their ads all over magazines and billboards and the images are always so cool and beautiful. Given that history, I think it’s awesome to now be a part of such an iconic brand.
What comes to mind when you think of Calvin Klein Jeans?
I really love how comfortable their jeans are and because they fit so amazingly.
What do you think is the most exciting part about being a Calvin Klein Jeans model?
Being a Calvin Klein model is something that I’ve always dreamed of, and it’s incredible to follow such major models like Kate Moss, Christy Turlington and Lara Stone. It’s just an awesome brand to be a part of and I’m super excited.
Do you have a favourite former campaign?
Definitely the campaign with Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg–I loved that one.
When it comes to style, is there anyone or anything in particular that inspires you?
I’m still 19, so I feel like my style is still developing. I find myself wearing jeans and T-shirts and leather jackets most often. I find style inspiration just traveling around the world and being in New York, London, Paris, and seeing all of these different places and people with such cool style and edge. I think that I pick up a lot from just travelling.
What’s your routine for staying in such great shape?
I work out with a trainer when I’m in L.A., and I love boxing. I go to the gym whenever I can find the time, but boxing is something that just keeps you moving and makes you forget that you’re actually working out because you’re so into the boxing part of it and that keeps you focused on what you’re doing next.
What is one thing most people would be surprised to know about you?
People would be surprised to know that I’m actually very shy. When I first get to know someone, I have to get really warmed up to become, and reveal, my full self.
If you weren’t modelling, what would you want to be doing?
If I wasn’t modelling, I would probably be going to school, would be in college, trying to figure out what’s next.
As the “world’s most followed model” with a reach of over 30 million fans, what are your thoughts on social media?
I’ve kind of grown up with it. It’s a way I can express myself and it’s the way I connect with my friends or fans. It’s just kind of natural for my generation, which is crazy to say because I cannot imagine what the generations ahead of me and my kids are going to look like. It’s crazy to think about! I think social media represents how this generation expresses themselves. I think it’s awesome.
How did you like participating in the #mycalvins campaign?
I loved participating in #mycalvins–it was fun to do. I’ve been a fan of Calvin Klein, so to be a part of that campaign was really awesome. The underwear is amazing. Honestly, I wear it every night to sleep and I wear it every day, so it was a natural thing for me. It’s funny because my agent asked me, “Why did you post that?” and I said “Because I’m actually wearing it and I actually love it and I wanted to post it!”
What is the one thing you will take away and remember about this experience?
I got to meet the Calvin Klein family and all of the people who are involved with the making of the campaign. It’s a brand that I’ve always loved and one that I truly support. To work for them is an honor and I’m super excited. Oh, and the clothes are super comfortable—and I want these sweats really bad!
