Last night, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) choose New York-based designer Joseph Altuzarra as the winner for the 2011 grand prize following months of rigorous testing. From countless presentations in New York and Los Angeles amongst a panel of top judges including Diane von Furstenberg, Jenna Lyons, the designers from Proenza Schouler and many more, all the young hopefuls were vying for the coveted title and prize, which includes $300,000 to further their already successful labels. Runners up include rebel jewellery designer Pamela Love and indie brand Creatures of the Wind.

Up next for Altuzarra, a collaboration with mega retailer J.Crew, which comes with the hefty prize. Previous winners Eddie Borgo and Prabal Gurung welcomed a capsule line at the big box store which sold out in minutes. Fingers (and toes) are crossed in hopes that this collection will land on Canadian soil.
