One of our favourite Jean Paul Gaultier runway moments was a breakout for Canadian catwalker Coco Rocha. By early 2007, Rocha had already garnered a reputation as one of the most sought-after new models, scoring campaigns with Balenciaga and Lanvin, along with a raft of magazine covers. When Gaultier caught wind that the then-18-year-old model was skilled at Irish dancing, he enlisted her to employ her talents at his Fall 2007 show at Paris Fashion Week.
As Rocha high-stepped her way down the runway, dressed in a bright red coat and a crown of feathers, the claps, cheers and hoots of surprise moved through the clearly-thrilled crowd. (“It’s Coco!” someone is heard exclaiming in the video below.) Coco bookended Gaultier’s collection of Highland tartans with another jig, high-kicking herself into runway history and cementing an already sky-rocketing career.
