Today, the fashionable precursor to a long awaited film arrives at H&M. At The Thompson Hotel last night it was clear that the clothing collaboration with the (appropriately) Swedish super chain is as hotly anticipated as the movie that inspired it: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Like the title character, played in David Fincher’s American incarnation by newcomer Rooney Mara, the collection is tough as nails. Creator of the film’s costumes and designer of the H&M capsule, Trish Summerville, has made it possible for us to embody the edgy, casual cool about to be immortalized in celluloid by Lisbeth Salander.
As guests arrived at The Thompson, it became readily apparent that we have already been inspired by Lisbeth’s alt-grunge look. With nary a jewel-tone in sight and many-a-pair of leather pants (yours truly included), it looked like everyone was channeling the hardcore heroine. Even the cocktails were appropriately dark.
Luckily, H&M can help us with our sartorial mission. Dark leather jackets, slim fitting cargo pants, and some waffle knit sweats (supposedly Mara’s favourite piece from the collection) just might transform us into the computer hacker extraordinaire–or at the very least, her doppleganger. Either way, expect to see an army of Salander look-a-likes starting today.
