Question: I’m just heading back to work from maternity leave – what look should I go after?

Answer: Look for pieces that are smart and polished, with a hint of sophisticated femininity. Build your wardrobe with classic pieces such as cropped blazers, slim and wide-leg trousers, skirts, v-neck sweaters, cardigans, and blouses that will mix and match. A classic wool gabardine suit in a dark neutral such as charcoal, navy or black will work as the foundation.

Add interest to your wardrobe by choosing two or three pairs of trousers, either in neutrals or novelty fabrics such as menswear-inspired pinstripes. Mix in a few skirts, too – full A-line knife-pleat skirts and below-the-knee pencil skirts are modern for fall. Bow blouses in jewel-tones or leopard prints add a chic touch, while fine-knit sweaters and cardigans are classic layering pieces. Add definition by belting sweaters – try either a skinny patent or croc belt, or a wider corset style belt. Finish your look with a great pair of almond toe platform heels in patent or croc.
