With warm weather just a hop, skip and a flurry away, now may be a good time to start dusting off your spring wardrobe (remember those?) and solving some fashion equations—subtraction (i.e. toss or donate), multiplication (i.e. staples to be replenished), and—best of all—addition (no translation necessary)!

With so many great things gracing the spring 2011 runways, it’s no easy feat deciding what to add to your wardrobe. But if you make one purchase this season, be sure to make it a midi skirt, which hovers around the mid-calf area. Not sure how to tackle this new trend? Fear not, as FLARE‘s fashion interns have braved this season’s countless offerings to bring you a list of our top picks:

Lace skirt, Anna Sui: Fond of the countryside? Take a styling cue from Alexandra Birukova by tucking a denim shirt into this peasant-infused number and adding tan leather accessories. $330, net-a-porter.com.

Pleated skirt, Topshop: Stephanie Di Biase opts to channel her inner Black (or in this case, navy) Swan with the balletic lightness of her Topshop choice, advising a deep red lip for some drama (but not too much drama). $80, Topshop.

Linen and silk skirt, Fendi: For colour maximization, Travis Komarnisky suggests pairing this coral skirt with pastel separates and gem-hued accessories—a sure bet in conquering the winter blues. $630, brownsfashion.com.

Tie-dye skirt, Vena Cava:  Amelia Von Anrep and Louise Choee share a love for this skirt (was it the shade of robin’s egg or the soft silk?), though not visions for styling it. Amelia prefers the less-is-more approach—“the ankle is really sexy with a great pair of heels”—while Louise is all about looking fresh and flirty in a sheer white tank and a coral sunhat. $435, saksfifthavenue.com.

Leopard-printed skirt, Preen: I’m partial to this Preen number that packs a triple punch, merging the modernism of colour-blocking with the classic leopard print and of course, the on-trend midi length. For maximum sartorial prowess, pair it with a neon printed tee, neutral wooden platforms, and a serious strut. $1,318, shopbop.com.–Michelle Yu
