Line’s John Muscat and Jennifer Wells – Canada’s reigning knit wits – are at it again with a new sister label. Aptly titled John & Jenn, the cheerful offering of colour-pop pieces from spring which debuted at Toronto’s TNT last night. While models took their place in a mock photo studio (the store’s windows) and posed for the lookbook, Muscat and Wells told us about the new collection. “I had this idea five years ago, but needed to convince her,” said Muscat, motioning to his design partner, on the desire to do an accessibly priced (nothing tops $125 offshoot). “The reality is that our girl needs to stretch her budget. Five hundred dollars for a sweater isn’t necessarily affordable,” he laughed, referencing the signature collection’s big-ticket cashmeres. Besides price, John & Jenn’s most marked difference is its vivid palette, veering wildly offtrack from Line faultless neutrals. “We just really wanted to have fun with the colour and materials,” add Wells, who cites the sequin pieces as her favorite styles. FLARE would have to agree.
