The sports world’s most esteemed prize can’t just be housed in any-old crate. Instead, the organizers of FIFA (a style-savvy bunch, apparently) commissioned Louis Vuitton to create a custom case for all the trophy’s travel needs. The monogram canvas print, which serves as an international code for PRECIOUS CARGO, looked appropriately flashy at yesterday’s unveiling after the Spain/Netherlands match. Fabio Cannavaro, Italy’s dashing team captain who led them to victory in 2006, and South African model Deborah Mukaz presented the golden cup to Spain. This got us thinking about other luxury brands that could add polish to sport’s top prizes. Why not then an Hermes trunk for the Stanley Cup? A Gucci case for the NBA finals? A Chanel duffle for the World Series? Sounds like a home run to us.
