FEEDBACK: MODEL VS. CELEBRITY

We asked, you tweeted

This week our Editor-In-Chief Lisa Tant weighed in on the model vs. celebrity cover debate and, just as quickly, so did you. Here’s what happened in the blogesphere:

On Twitter:

@theotherfashion: I rather models on covers specially a fashion magazine, you’re next cover should be Natasha Poly 🙂

@brandonrdwyer: without models on covers, the “supermodel” will die, it’s already a dying breed

@justdworld but Gwen is a force. Singer,Mom,Fashion Designer.. I buy all her covers.

@lelalondon the line between model and celebrity is not quite so clear. They’re always venturing into each other’s fields.

@SaidTed Celebrities attract one-time purchasers, whereas great models attract loyal readers and fans like myself.

@shelleymantei: Celeb covers urge me 2buy mag cuz oftn article about ’em not just pretty pics, Models just get “behind shoot” outfit/makeup info

@coltenpancer The June issue with Alanna Zimmer on the cover was my favorite issue for this year so far 🙂

@pfpicardi: Fashion is best rep’d by trendSETTERS, not followers. Celebs are styled, models & it-girls are individual.

@karengeier: i think the way to keep ahead of the curve is to go back to models. celebs are saturated and played out.

@AndreaCYeung Celeb cover catches the eye of a larger demographic. Fashion fans are gonna pic up mag anyways, why not target others?

@meaganwilson: It helps celebrities to be associated with the industry/being styled well though – Carey Mulligan, Chloe Sevigny…

@gailmcinnes: model vs celeb: As long as it’s gorgeous + subject relevant, then can be either. Lady Gaga still fave Flare cover

@AndrewArcher360: BUT recognizing the “power of celeb” is what grew Vogue (September Issue?) Its not like they dress themselves on cover

@baileymara: always fun to see fave celebs dress up in haute couture on mag once in a while but modeling should be left up to the models

@modemodels: models are hired to make clothes look good. People have to be hired to make celebrities look good. How is it a question?

@modelresource: Model, Model, Model. RT Model vs celebrity on @flarefashion cover? Add your comment to my blog. Would love your feedback.

@ainshayes …let models to their job. it’s hard enough to get booked and get a cover no less with the already existing model competition.

Model! Always model! “@LisaTant: Model vs celebrity on @flarefashion cover? Add your comment to my blog. Would love to get your feedback.”

@LisaTant My blog this week is about cover subjects @FLAREfashion http://ow.ly/2gDp9 —Gaga is my favourite Flare cover too!

On Facebook:

Stephanie Watkins Models!!!

Alicia Dunbar Hinojosa Celebrities!

Lisa’s final word: Thank you everyone for your comments on the model vs celeb debate. So far models winning by far. You will LOVE our Sept & Oct covers…that being said, I still love the right (i.e. style forward) celeb on a cover. Personal faves: Lady Gaga, Dita von Teese, Gwen Stefani.

Didn’t get a chance to have your say? The debate lives on!
