The Original & Covetable Look Of London
Fashion week in London was for many years considered more directional than commercial, but more and more that reputation is changing with the rise of talents like Christopher Kane and J.W. Anderson, who manage to mix original (and oftentimes quirky) ideas into instantly covetable looks with seeming ease. This change is noticeable when one is at the shows, because seat after seat is filled with buyers from the world’s top retailers, out to find the pieces that will spice up their fall buys.
There was a great deal to fall in love with this season in London, and it was interesting to see some of the common ideas that looped through many of the collections despite their very different aesthetics. Whether it’s a rubber coat or orthopedic flats, what London designers do best is show us how to push our wardrobes, and by extension, ourselves, into new territory.
