This season, runway trends are moving from our closets to our bedrooms, living rooms and beyond. That’s not to say that home décor borrowing from fashion is a new phenomenon. But with some of our favourite places to shop for clothing opening up their own lines of décor, expressing our personal style in our homes has never be easier or more affordable.
Mia Parres, interior stylist and co-host on HGTV Canada’s The Expandables and Home to Win (Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT), says to look for trends that have staying power and come back in style from time to time, so you’re not constantly feeling the need to switch things up. So just in time for refresh season, we’re taking a look at five of spring fashion week’s biggest trends and to adapt them for your space. “There’s no wrong way make a statement and style your place,” she adds. “You can pick and choose from all of these trends or stick to one or two, if you want. It’s just like your own personal flavour. Like with what you wear, it should reflect your style.”

When incorporating primary colours into your home, the first step is to decide which area of your space you want to stand out. If you're going for a big piece of furniture, Parres advises to stay away from prints: "Choose a couch in a bright or navy blue and then accessorize around it with pillows and throws. You can also accessorize the space with smaller items in a variety of different colours."
