Emily's Style Notes: Killer Boots For The Incessant Slush

Dr. Martens collaborates with Yohji Yamamoto’s diffusion label, Y’s, for a pair of utilitarian boots I actually want to wear

In her new weekly column, Emily Ramshaw, Assistant Fashion News Editor, starts a conversation inspired by the insiders and newsmakers shaping the fashion world now. Check back every Tuesday for her latest report.

The slush is coming. Seriously though. After Toronto’s big snowstorm – and I hear that other parts of the country have gotten a dumping as well – all that’s out there is muck, muck, muck. Yuck.

Thankfully, Dr. Martens latest collaboration, with Yohji Yamamoto’s Y’s, offers some respite. I have a weakness for Docs as it is, but the simple addition of a zipper is – somewhat irrationally – hard to resist. (The attachment of Yamamoto’s name also doesn’t hurt.) Although white may seem more impractical, I’m leaning toward the brights for a little extra subversion. With footwear so practical, it’s nice to have one thing not make quite so much sense.

The boots will be available this month at Toronto’s Doc Martens store. But don’t dawdle, there’s a limited run of just sixteen pairs in Canada – I checked.
