Editors' Picks: Sneakers, Denim and More

Here at FLARE, we have a lot in common: a love of fashion, beauty, magazines, culture and general wordsmithery. But we don’t always have time to share the minutiae of our passions: What do we binge-watch on a rainy weekend? What album do we have playing on a continuous loop? What movies make us cry? Hence, this weekly column was born.

Editors' Picks (May 8)

Nespresso has managed to marry their coffee and espresso makers into a sleek all-in-one, the new VertuoLine. FLARE was lucky to get a test drive from chef David Rocco, who shared the importance of crema—which this machine has perfected—and his love of travel (seriously, he has been everywhere). With a variety of flavours and the choice of making a short or tall cup, it will definitely help perk up our team during those early mornings and late nights at the office. VertuoLine, $299,

I often have a hard time getting up in the morning—blankets are warm, until very recently the weather was not—so I’m constantly dreaming of how I can bring the sleepy, pyjama-laden comfort of my home to the office. Behold the solution: A billowy pair of wide-leg trousers that can take you from bed to boardroom (though I don’t recommend actually napping in something this fancy). I’d pair these with my fave boxy Acne T-shirt and flatforms for day, and swap out the shoes for white Birkenstocks on weekends. Bliss! F

I’ve never been one to wear running shoes, but these Rick Owens x Adidas sneakers look like they’re from an entirely different universe than your typical pedestrian footwear. Their chunky soles and oversized tongue make them #fashun enough for me to wear without feeling like my mom going on her morning walk. I wasn’t loving the high fashion sneaker moment in fashion, but Rick Owens may have made me a believer. Black skinnies make up my jean wardrobe most of the time—with the occasional beat-up boyfriend thrown into the mix—but this season my new obsession is white jeans. An updated take on the classic boyfriend, a vintage-y, work wear-inspired ecru (not pure white; my junior high mall fashion days are behind me!) worn perfectly slouchy with a proper roll-up, feels cool and casual for summer. Rivet & Thread Selvedge Boyjean in White Clover, $198,

Last fall, I laid off my favourite deep-cleansing facials and by the end of the winter, it showed. My normally smooth jaw-line was spoiled by bumps and my glow was gone altogether. Enter Clarisonic’s Deep Pore Decongesting system. I noticed an immediate improvement in my skin; after just ten days, my jawline is clearing and I’m back to a foundation-less makeup routiCLA-Mia2_DPCDecongestPkg_sidene for day.
