Here's why the newly-appointed creative director makes us swoon (and we love his fall line, to boot!)

When we first laid eyes on Hunter Original’s ready-to-wear debut for fall, our first thought was, “WANT.” Our second thought was, “Who is responsible for this genius?” The answer: recently appointed creative director Alasdhair Willis, who, in a single season, has transformed Hunter from a one-boot brand into a hip fashion label with a slick line-up of neoprene jackets, high-tech fleece coats and clean-lined anoraks. Clearly, this is someone we want to know more about. So we sat down with Willis (who, by the way, is the hot husband of Stella McCartney) to get to know the man behind the new Hunter. He bravely tackled our FLARE Questionnaire, and let’s just say his answers were totally swoon-y. Stella McCartney 1, everyone else 0.

Who do you admire most and why? Can I say my wife? Is that really cheesy? It’s a bit tacky but I do deeply respect my wife. Not only is she a great mother, she’s also an incredible creative and business person, and that takes a lot of doing.

What’s the one food you absolutely refuse to eat? Mushrooms, I can’t stand mushrooms.

When you look at your high-school yearbook photos, what’s the first word that comes to mind? How did I get my hair to stay up there?

How would you fritter away a lazy Sunday? I would love to have a lazy Sunday. I can’t even remember the last lazy Sunday I’ve had. If I could have a lazy Sunday, it would definitely be on the sofa watching a film with just my wife.

What quality or talent do you envy in others? I envy the ability to remain calm at all times. Which I try to do, but am not successful, if I’m honest.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? If I’m honest, “If I’m honest.”

What is your greatest extravagance? That would definitely be my gardens. My gardens and planting trees—that doesn’t sound like that much of an extravagance, but believe me, it is.

Salty or sweet? Definitely salty.

Cat or dog? Dog.

Favourite album? The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths.

Favourite book? The Lost Ones by Samuel Beckett.

What’s your usual? A margarita, but with an extra dash of fresh orange juice.

Favouite snack? A banana.

What’s your most prized possession? My wedding ring.

What part of your day do you dread the most? You know, I don’t dread any part of the day, I really don’t. I know a lot of people who dread the sound of the alarm going, I actually love it. I bounce out of bed in the morning.

Fashion trend you wish would disappear? One trend I could not get my head around was the onesie. Sorry, I’m getting old I know.

If you overheard someone talking about you, what do you hope they’d say? I would hope they would say that I’m an inspiring person to be around.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it to you? My father told me: “Don’t look down,” to which I would add, “unless you’re wearing a pair of Hunters!”
