Vince Camuto on How Many Pairs of Shoes a Woman Needs

FLARE sat down with the famed shoe designer at his first Canadian flagship store

One step into Vince Camuto’s first flagship store in Canada and you get the sense he means business: the corner location in one of Toronto’s glossiest shopping destination, Yorkdale Shopping Centre, has bright, all-white furnishings, sleek rows of shelving and high ceilings—a dead ringer for every girl’s dream walk-in closet.

The uncrowded store layout is all a part of his “fresh approach,” one that includes a diverse, but distinctly curated selection of his market-competitive footwear as well as handbags, jewelry, and ready-to-wear pieces. He was keen to expand into Canada—even complimenting Canuck women for their European style sensibilities—but plans on opening more locations in exclusive areas in due time.

When I broach the topic of his favourite pieces in the store, Camuto is adamant that every woman needs around 18 pairs of shoes (the magic number he swears by). Thankfully, for the sake of those of us going for a more restrained fall update, he’s narrowed his list down to a few key pairs:

“We’ve had the moto boot for about three years now and it’s really cool. You can wear them with anything, even shorts.”

“We like the over-the-knee boot moving into fall. Black leather and a flat heel are the key features.”

“You need a great printed heel and the mule is a great trend that acts as an in-between for summer weather and fall temperatures.”VCS_TAMIKO_BLACKISNOW_SNOW_LEOPARD_HAIRS_BACK
