Runway Inspiration
Denim received a sophisticated makeover this season and it’s looking better than ever. It’s almost ironic that after years of the textile being deemed inappropriate for the workplace—denim has emerged as a fabric that can be both casual and formal. With an influx of creative industries like e-commerce, fashion and music, standards of dress in the workplace are starting to soften and denim is finding its way back into the working world.
While we wouldn’t suggest wearing jeans to a meeting with an important client (or in more corporate environments) denim, when dressed up, is no longer considered too casual for the office. Popularized by Levi Strauss, the robust cotton-twill became the fabric of choice for blue-collar workers in the '30s and '40s. Designers began showing iterations of dressy denim in Spring 2013, continuing the trend into the Resort and Fall seasons—suffice to say, the trend has staying power. Seal the deal with our selection of dressed-up denim (and how to wear it).
