Courtney Love, the epitome of grunge style, is now the face of Saint Laurent Paris’s latest campaign—though it’s not a shocker that creative director Hedi Slimane chose her. After all, she did find his Fall 2013 collection rather intoxicating. “Having gasms at the idea of rich ladies buying what we used to wear, finally someone got the actual look exact, no beanies,” Love tweeted to Slimane about the collection. With the ripped fishnets, baby-doll dresses and, of course, plaid, the models of Saint Laurent’s fall show looked as though they had stepped straight out of Love’s closet and onto the catwalk. It’s no wonder Love is in love.
The grunge queen, rocking a jewelled crown in one of the shots, isn’t the only ’90s star representing the French fashion house. Slimane also photographed Marilyn Manson, whose black eyeliner and dark lipstick—not to mention his cult following—are the perfect match for Saint Laurent’s dark leather and prints. Since grunge was a subculture inspired by heavily distorted music and a “don’t care” attitude—represented in a signature relaxed look—there really is no one better to front this tortured, worn-in collection than the ’90s musicians themselves.
