“I am very happy and excited to be back. It feels like coming home after a brief journey,” said Jil Sander in a statement to WWD on her return to the label after parting ways in 2004. Sander first left in 2000, returned in 2003 then left again after only three collections. Current designer Raf Simons will show his final collection for the brand tomorrow in Milan.
But where is Simons off to? It’s rumoured that the designer will focus on his menswear label and possibly add womenswear (by popular demand!).
While away, Sander produced an affordable line of apparel for men and women in collaboration with Uniqlo, the big box shop from Japan. The collection, titled J+, lasted for three very successful years and ended in the fall of 2011.
“Paradigms change and evolve from season to season, but the heart of a brand doesn’t alter. It will be a great challenge and a greater joy to design Jil Sander’s contemporary identity. I am convinced that the moment is as favorable as could be wished,” shared Sander in a statement on the move.
