On my first day in Italy, the skies poured down sheets of water, but that didn’t stop the style set from arriving at the shows in full, outlandish gear—Anna Dello Russo (wearing a floral mini dress, an army jacket, platform ’70s heels and unmatching red hat) among them. The highlight was Gucci’s re-see, where I got up close and personal with the unbelievable embellishment Alessandro Michele has brought to a house heretofore known for streamlined sexiness. But the real news was outside the tents, where I clocked a few less in-your-face trends. First, say byebye to skinnies; editors are bringing back cropped, vintage-y straight leg denim in waves. They’ve also glommed on to the penny loafer—more good news for those of us now addicted to daily flats thanks to last year’s ubiquitous sneaker trend. Grazie mille!
