With up to 300, 000 monthly visitors to her blog, The Haute Pursuit, more than half a million followers on Instagram and celebrity fans like Lady Gaga, Vanessa Hong is Canada’s undisputed social media superstar. When she’s not sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week or jet-setting to Rome to take over Fendi’s Snapchat, the 32-year-old splits her time between Shanghai, New York and her hometown of Vancouver. “Being from the West Coast, I definitely went through a California girl phase,” she laughs. It was one of many looks Hong flirted with before settling in to her signature style: streamlined, neutral and often monochromatic.

But what sets her apart from the selfie-obsessed masses is her ability to elevate beyond blogger status to legit CEO. Last year, she launched her own line and retail shop, THPSHOP, which sells clothing and accessories that reflect Hong’s polished aesthetic—and ambition. “I recognized early on that working solely with brands as my only revenue source would be very limiting,” she says. “I’ve always been very entrepreneurial, so retail was a natural route to take. I want to start doing pop-ups around the world; we’re looking at either New York or Singapore for our first one.”
