Chanel showcases lavish looks that borrow from Byzantine

It’s all in a week’s work for the Kaiser. After anointing fashion newbie Blake Lively as the new face of Chanel earlier this week, uncle Karl revisits the past with his fashionable revival of the Ottoman Empire. Instead of his typical short film, Lagerfeld showcased the Chanel Pre-Fall Métiers d’Art collection on the catwalk in Paris. The season’s theme, inspired by the lost culture of Byzantium, was loaded with lavish looks that were heavy on embellishment and luxe craftsmanship. Regal jewel toned hues, heavy embroidery and plush fabrication, channeled the opulence of one of the most decedent societies in history.
