Hilary Swank, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan are only a few of the big names Veronia Chail, host of Bollywood Blvd on Omni Television, interviewed at the 2011 IIFAs. Dressed in short canary yellow frock, Chail stood out amongst the crowd in her one-of-a-kind creation by Canadian designer Brandon Dwyer.
The host and designer share their thoughts on Bollywood fashion and creating a dress that’s fit for the red carpet:
Veronica Chail on Bollywood fashion
“Simply put, Bollywood fashion collections are wearable pieces of art – with a whole lot of decadence, sparkle and shimmer. Cinematic style has always been in fashion. In fact, it may just be Bollywood’s most enduring and romantic love story.”
Chail on her one-of-a-kind design
“Indian Cinema has always been in my household. I am South Asian by heritage but I was raised in Sweden and Canada. So, I wanted to ensure that my personality, roots and sense of style were infused in the design. It’s a Bollywood inspired dress. It’s vibrant, fun, ultra-feminine with a whole lot of colour, sparkle and glamour, with a touch of tradition.”
Brandon R Dwyer, designer, on creating a red carpet worthy dress
“I wanted to see bright colours, gorgeous fabrications, and a super fitted bodice to really accentuate Veronica’s curves. I watched many Bollywood movies before sitting down to design this piece. I really wanted to hold true to the culture and design. So I knew I wanted to have a saree element no matter what. I teamed it up with a knee length finishing to add a fresh take on it.”
