Toronto-based photographer Jason Hudson is onto something. The gentleman behind the blog These Roving Eyes has taken the fashion circuit by storm snapping pics for top notch fashion events across the city and even a lookbook for luxe label Ports 1961. With a portfolio of shots ranging from the boys at Proenza Schouler to street style star Anna Dello Russo, Hudson is on the rise and on our radar.
On his fascination with fashion
“I’m trained in commercial photography and while all photography is artistic, when you learn it from a commercial perspective, you think of it differently. I’m as much a technician as I am an artist. I think of fashion in a similar way and have a lot of respect for designers and cutters and seamstresses. Anyone who can see something in their head and then produce it in real life fascinates me.”
On his greatest achievement to date
“I recently traveled to New York to shoot lookbooks for Ports 1961. It felt like a real career-milestone and it all developed out of blogging. Every opportunity I’ve had in the last year is directly related to someone knowing my blog, which is exciting because it couldn’t be a more personal expression of what I love, how I operate, and what I’m all about.”
On what inspires him
“That’s a tough question! I’m inspired by the obvious stuff, like good light and beautiful people and great clothes. Nice scenery. Strong design. A great font choice. All of those aesthetic things get me going and make me want to take pictures or wear a colour I never thought I could.”
