A young artist’s aesthetic is often hard to pinpoint but illustrator Danny Roberts certainly has a whimsical flair when it comes to his fashion-focused sketches for the cult-fave blog Igor + André. Based in California, Roberts has gained a great following across the blogosphere with his moody drawings inspired by splashy campaigns, model muses and the characters in his mind.
Among a string of collaborations, including Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers label, Lancôme, and Forever 21, Roberts has caught the attention of some of the industry’s elite, landing him on the pages of Japanese and Spanish Vogue, as well as the cover of The Sunday Times featuring his illustration of the late Alexander McQueen.
“Fashion to me is kind of a door into a dream world…seeing a fashion collection is like picking the wardrobe for the story that is constantly being written in my head,” said Roberts when asked about his evolving relationship with the colourful industry.
See Roberts in action as he sketches Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2011 campaign in his own unique way.
