For this edition on Blog Watch we head to Australia (virtually that is) and get to know buzzy new blogger Greta Larkins of FashGif. The 27-year-old Melbourne-based animator works in product development and trend reporting by day (for a leading jewellery label) while spends her personal time on Photoshop crafting cheeky animated images for her up-and-coming blog.
With her “why not” attitude, Larkins fills us in on how she got started, her favourite GIF so far and her dream collaboration:
Getting started: “I’d been watching the Tumblr world from the sidelines for a while and it just made sense to fuse my interest in fashion with my interest in GIFs and all things Internet. I think it came down to really wanting to interact with the clothes, plus having a creative outlet that I had full control over. Editors get to determine trends, stylists get to layer different pieces and collections to create a ‘look’ and the consumer (with a healthy bank balance) gets to wear them!”
The art of the GIF: “Being able to take a 2D image and bring it to life has become my way of playing with the clothes and interpreting collections. It’s like a bizarre Internet-only dress up box!”
Favourite creation so far: “Right now, it’s this Mary Katrantzou look. The coat hanger print obviously inspired the coat hanger to replace the models shoulders and head. I also like the idea that ultimately this dress will live on a coat hanger and not permanently on a body. And then it just keeps swinging! Simple but with a high impact.”
Dream collaboration: “I’d love to do a Prada Fantasy Look Book.”
