Amongst all the wanna-be Tommys, StreetPeepers, and Sartorialists, there only a handful of new photo fashion bloggers rising to the surface who show a point of difference. When we stumbled upon Jason Jean’s site Citizen Couture a few months ago, it was easy to notice that this online catalogue was one to watch. With a focus on personalities in fashion (and a few great street stylers), Jean snaps only the best of the best. His roladex of favourites range from top models to editors, including our very own Liz Cabral, Fashion Director, who was profiled during the Fall/Winter 2011 shows in Paris.
After launching in 2009, Jean is taking a short step back to see where his blog will go following a clutter-filled year of fashion happy snappers. The rising photographer shares with us how he got started and what he’s brainstorming for the year to come:
On why he started a blog
“After ending my career as a tax accountant, I wanted to revisit my creative roots that I suppressed since high school. With photography in mind for several years, it seemed like the right time to pursue it. While I enjoy photographing these fashion inspirations, I’m also aiming to capture a timeless moment.”
On the future of fashion blogs and his next step
“The pace of fashion blogging is moving so quickly and becoming increasingly competitive, so I want to take a step back to focus on my mission and the quality of the work. I’m also assessing the idea of a community where I can help connect the people I meet from different cities, but that may take some time. In the meantime, I’m hoping to expand my project by traveling to more cities abroad.”
