Question: I’ve noticed that voluminous sack dresses are back for fall. How can I wear one and not look like a teenager?
Answer: The sack dress (or tent dress) is the perfect transition piece between summer and fall. You can probably hit one of the many sale racks and find a super cute cotton twill jumper version that falls freely from the shoulders. The shape works well for petites, is ideal for triangle or pear shapes, and doubles as a tunic for slightly more mature figures.
For a relaxed look, pair it with a colorful tank, lots of bangles, and metallic flats. For gals who are slightly pear shaped, it’s the perfect silhouette as it camouflages fuller hips. Try layering a skinny neutral tank under the dress and top with a cropped, slim-fit jacket. The jacket will provide a little coverage and balance the fuller skirt. Graphic jewelry and gold/raffia wedges, or patent stacked heels keep the look modern. For a more sophisticated take, cinch the waist with a 1-2” belt and pair with a lightweight trouser (darker than the dress) or bermuda short.
