It was good news for Canadian tweens yesterday when punk princess, Avril Lavigne, announced she would be expanding her rock-inspired clothing line worldwide. With fellow songstress turned fashion mogul Jessica Simpson’s clothing empire reaching the $1 billion mark last week—perhaps this inspired the Canuck singer to expand her wares globally. The juniors’ line entitled Abbey Dawn—after a nickname Lavigne’s father had given her as a child—has been available for the last two years at Kohl’s stores, but as of Friday the streetwear styles will be online and available to the entire world. Mini collections will be released throughout the next year, until the line’s full-fledged launch in spring 2012. Although we aren’t huge fans of Avril’s skater girl aesthetic, there was a huge punk presence at the spring ’11 shows. For example, take the spring ’11 Balmain collection, that had an apparent rocker vibe, complete with a smattering of studs, distressed patterns, ripped stockings and even a few safety pins. We hope that the budding fashion tycoon will channel this nouveau punk pattern to elevate her own pieces with a more modern flair.
