Anna Dello Russo for H&M Accessories Canada 2012
“I like flashy stuff,” says Anna Dello Russo, recounting in her lilting Italian accent the time when her father tried to give her 12-year-old self an understated watch. She pleaded for a chunky gold Rolex. “My father said no, you have to find another one,” she recalls. “But I was fascinated by gold Rolexes.”
One look at a photo of ADR (her online moniker) is to know she is a connoisseur of grandiose. The Vogue Japan editor at large’s glittering Alan Journo headpieces, outrageous eyewear and breast-plate necklaces were brought to the world’s attention via the lenses of street-style vanguards such as Tommy Ton and Scott Schuman. Such embellishment has become the hallmark of a brand that has grown to include a blog that details her obsessions to some 25,000 daily visitors, and a fragrance for major Italian e-tailer Yoox that’s housed in a golden glass shoe. Of course Dello Russo chose accessories when H&M came calling about a collaboration, due in stores on October 4. “They make personal style have a message,” she says.
