The launch of the Children’s Aid Foundation fundraiser, appropriately titled Spark, took place this past Sunday. It was an afternoon filled with delectable treats, lively entertainment and alluring fashion. Hosted at the Liberty Grand by Global News anchors Leslie Roberts and Anne Mroczkowski, guests lunched while listening to this year’s honourees share who inspired them as adolescents and ignited the spark of the careers they have today.

After lunch it was off to get a sneak peek backstage at the preparations for the runway show. We chatted with Paul Venoit about the inspiration for hair and makeup which he referred to was the “distressed 1950s housewife.” Muted orange on the cheeks, lips and eyes worked flawlessly with the varying looks from effortless day wear to extravagant gowns. Designers featured in the show include Carolina Herrera, J.Mendel, Lanvin and Jil Sander.

This year’s honourees Andrea Martin, Tré Armstrong, Arlene Dickinson, Nick Ugoalah,  Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath all took part in the show. Highlights included incredible performances from local artists and youth groups. The result was an entertaining afternoon for a wonderful cause.
