Last week Gap launched their Premium Pant collection and Banana Republic showed their Fall 2010 collection – I had the pleasure of being whisked away to New York to attend both launches.
After a few seasons of spot-on denim pieces and perfecting a casual All-American look, Patrick Robinson thought it was time to amp up Gap’s dressier options. Marrying style and function, Robinson personally presented a line of 5 pant styles that according to him, can “take you through seven days a week, no matter what time or place”. From a loose, menswear-inspired fit to fall’s must-have skinny boot cut, these pants really could take you from work to weekend. What got me really excited though, were the accompanying pieces – like a perfect knit poncho, a luxe shearling jacket (at $750 it’s not for every Gap customer) and highly covetable footwear. Perfect wedge boots from the Pierre Hardy for Gap collaboration in fab colours of camel, olive and grey. As well, fab hiking-style, wedge heels, designed by Robinson for Gap.
A couple days later I found myself in a small gallery space in Chelsea. With a runway and top editors sitting front row, I was having New York Fashion Week déja-vu. But in fact, it was Banana Republic’s fall 2010 show. Spot on with fall’s trends, the show centered around military inspired dressing with the perfect olive green cargo pants and utilitarian tunic dresses. Cozy ankle length cardigans and a to-die for shearling jacket in the perfect shade of grey. Clog style booties were an ideal finishing touch. These smart pieces will be the perfect supplement to my few designer buys come fall.
