8 Times Gugu Mbatha-Raw Killed It on the Red Carpet

When word of a new Brit it-girl travels across the pond, we take note—after all, the mother country has recently yielded a slew of FLARE cover stars, including Emilia Clarke, Imogen Poots and, now, Natalie Dormer. The latest addition to our ones-to-watch list: Gugu Mbatha-Raw. This month, the 31-year-old actress stars in the rom-dram Beyond the Lights as a breakout pop star whose fame gets the best of her. Next year promises even more name recognition with Jupiter Ascending, in which she plays a mythical lady-deer alongside Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. Mbatha-Raw’s fashion mastery has also caught our fancy; she is known for her feminine frocks but also forays into powerhouse prints and graphic shapes. Plus, her friendship with Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz—her date to this year’s Met Gala—all but clinches her about-to-blow-up style status.
