On Day 2 of Montreal Fashion Week, local label Second Denim Co. held its first-ever Dr. Denim Clinic to cure fashion-week-goers of their winter wardrobe blahs. Here’s what the denim doctors prescribed.
Tip 1: Use denim as your starting point. Choose basic washes, such as dark blues and blacks, which can look both office appropriate and evening ready in a snap.
Tip 2: Stick with silhouettes that suit your shape. Fashion’s love affair with the ’70s might be in full effect, but if high-rise jeans don’t flatter your figure, choose a more appropriate fit rather than trying to force it in an on-trend pair.
Tip 3: Invest in quality. Premium and properly treated fabrics will not only last longer but also retain their shape (sparing you from any sloppy-looking saggy spots).
Tip 4: Choose a comfortable style. Sounds obvious, but save your pain threshold for those to-die-for stilettos. As a regular part of your wardrobe rotation, your jeans should feel as good as they look.
Tip 5: Dare to make a statement. Coloured denim continues to be a big trend through spring and fall, so don’t be afraid to work seasonal hues from the waist down.
Tip 6: Boost your assets. Find a style with built-in body solutions.
FLARE’s pick: Second Denim’s Yoga Jeans, which feature a special threading technique to give your derrière some added lift and support. What’s more, founder and designer Eric Wazana revealed that all Second Denim styles will now feature the Yoga Jean’s unique technology.
