Erdem Moralioglu, who hails from Montreal and is now based in London, takes a moment to give us an update.

Q: With so many new young designers, why do you think your brand has gained such attention and recognition in a relatively short time?
A: I started the label five years ago, but it is amazing to see how quickly things fall into place. It’s think it’s a question of perseverance and timing.

Q:Who are your business and brand building idols?
A: One of by biggest idols would be Yves Saint Laurent for his prolific collections and longevity.

Q: What advice would you give to designers starting out on the importance of brand identity?

A: If I had one piece of advice, it would be to really develop and hone in on whatever it is that makes you different from other brands. Embrace your individuality and eventually, the press and stockists will as well.

Q: Why are collaborations important to the Erdem label?
A: I have done collaborations with Smythson, Globe Trotter and Cutler & Gross, which have been amazing. It’s wonderful to align myself with companies who are all British based brands that have elements that are both hand made, bespoke and luxurious, which are important qualities to me.

Q: What does success mean to you?
A: When I see real women embracing and wearing [my clothes]. There is nothing more thrilling than bumping into someone wearing one of your dresses.
