Linda Evangelista, Coco Rocha, Daria Werbowy—catwalk queens rank high on the list of Canada’s top exports. With no shortage of fresh faces scoring major international attention, here are the five new Canadian models who killed it on the fall 2015 catwalks.
Laura Winges (Specs)
Hometown: Ottawa, ON
Insta Handle: @laurawingo
Catwalk Recap: Many a model’s careers are made from a dramatic haircut (see: Edie Campbell, Isabella Emmack), but Winges’ early success proves waist-grazing waves can stand out amongst the shags and crops. After a busy circuit in New York, which included Reem Acra and Hervé Léger, the brunette truly hit her stride on Dior’s runway—quite the coup for her first season.
Emma Génier (Sutherland)
Hometown: Saint George de Beauce, QC
Insta Handle: @emmagenier
Catwalk Recap: Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta (and more!)—the petite powerhouse’s show list reads like Kim Kardashian’s shopping directory. As luxe label after label cast Genier in her debut season, she’s proven to be a fashion fixture (and she’s got the selfies with Cara Delevingne and Malaika Firth to prove it).
Sasha Hronis (Elmer Olsen)
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Insta Handle: @sashahronis
Catwalk Recap: Her perfect caramel complexion landed Hronis on FLARE’s makeup-free March cover, which hit newsstands back home right as the model was starting her premiere fashion-week tour, which included stops at Carolina Herrera, Rag & Bone and Matthew Williamson.
Steph Smith (Elite)
Hometown: Waterloo, ON
Insta Handle: @stephanie_lyne
Catwalk Recap: The wide-eyed beauty didn’t rack up many runway miles in her first season—because she scored big-time exclusives. In New York, Proenza Schouler called dibs and had her open their show. Then came Paris, where Smith strutted solely for Miu Miu, widely known as a career-launcher.
Ash Foo (Sutherland)
Hometown: North York, ON
Insta Handle: @ash_foo
Catwalk Recap: For our “Dream Girls” new model watchlist in FLARE’s March issue, Foo recalled her excitement after walking her first show at Toronto fashion week. She wasted no time making her international dreams come true too, with 15 shows in New York and Milan, including Rebecca Minkoff, Diesel and Aquilano Rimondi. We also followed her during World MasterCard Fashion Week just last month—see her Insta diary here.
