15 Things You Can Do With Your Apple Watch

…other than tell time!

It’s almost time: Apple is getting ready to launch the highly anticipated Apple watch in Canada on April 24. As Hailee Steinfeld proves on our May cover, it’s a stylish timepiece, but did you know it’s much more than just a watch? Here are 15 things your Apple Watch can do besides tell time.

1. Accessorize
With more than 30 models of Apple Watch available, there’s a style to suit everyone’s taste, but the customization of the watch doesn’t end after purchase. You can change the digital face of the watch at any time, so your watch always matches your personality, your mood, or your shoes. You can also adjust the interface so you can wear the watch on either wrist.

2. Get your caffeine fix
Buy your next coffee without opening your wallet! Companies like Starbucks will allow Apple Watch wearers to purchase a beverage simply by scanning their watch at the register. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

3. Board your next flight in style
Forget scanning your boarding pass at the gate—many airlines, including Air Canada, are launching apps that put scannable QR codes from your boarding pass right on your Apple Watch so you don’t have to fish around for your iPhone or your paper pass.

4. Learn a new language
You can use the Babbel app on your watch to learn a variety of relevant key words depending on your exact location and the country you’re visiting.

5. Hail a cab
Need a taxi or town car in a hurry? Don’t wave one down, just tap your Apple Watch and the Uber app will bring a car right to you within minutes. Other apps will let you find the fastest public transit route based on your location to get to your destination quickly!

6. Track your money
Do you have enough money in your account for that new bag you’ve been eyeing? Tap your watch to get your bank account balance, recent transaction details and important notifications about your personal finances.

7. Improve your health
With a built-in heart rate sensor and accelerometer, Apple Watch measures your movements, keeping you on track of your fitness goals throughout the day and over time. Additional apps can be used to monitor how much food and water you have throughout the day and motivate you to push yourself even harder.

8. Share your heartbeat
A unique feature with interesting possibilities. Once Apple Watch detects your heart rate, you can send it to other Apple Watch wearers, who will be able to feel your beating heart on their wrist. We can only imagine where app developers will take this!

9. Snap the perfect picture
Get a live view of your iPhone’s camera right on your watch. Frame your shot, adjust the focus, then snap your pic without touching your iPhone. Timers can also be set to ensure everyone gets into frame on time! (Another reason to ditch the selfie stick.)

10. Become a karaoke star
Sing along to any song, even if you don’t know the words. With the Shazam app, users can not only identify songs on their watch, the lyrics will display on the watch face in real time.

11. Control your vehicle
Automotive companies like BMW are developing apps for Apple Watch to let you control your vehicle’s temperature, lock and unlock the doors, and see important vehicle service reminders.

12. Ditch your remote
Never search for the remote again! Apple TV users will be able to control their television through their Apple Watch. You will also be able to control your iTunes library on your Mac or PC.

13. Answer your iPhone without touching it (or, you know, screen your calls)
With its built-in microphone and speaker, Apple Watch wearers can make and receive phone calls on their watch as long as they’re within Bluetooth range of their iPhone. See who’s calling on your wrist and then make the decision if you want to answer… or ignore.

14. Feel like a genius
Can’t remember who plays the lead in an upcoming movie? Need help converting currency? Apple’s personal assistant Siri is built into Apple Watch to answer your toughest questions. And yes, she’s just as witty as she is on your iPhone.

15. Unlock your hotel room
Stay in enough hotels and you quickly realize how easy it is to demagnetize your key card, sending you down to the front desk at the most inopportune times. Starwood Hotels has announced plans to let you gain access to your room by simply waving your Apple Watch at your room door. The hotel chain is also considering using the Watch to fast-track drink service at its bars.

Apple Watch will be available in Canada on April 24, with pre-orders beginning on April 10. Apple Watch will retail for $449 CDN and up.
