Rainbows are everywhere rn. It’s June, which means just about every major fashion and beauty brand is releasing Pride-themed merchandise to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community—and, let’s be honest, to cash in on the ~hot new trend~ of inclusivity. Whether you call it rainbow capitalism or you’re talking about the corporatization of Pride, which is an even broader problem, it’s… not great. As Vox explains, “the symbolic support for the LGBTQ community is ubiquitous, particularly during Pride Month. The list of causes with more visible support is short.” Translation: Somehow, companies will *still* put out rainbow-themed versions of their products, then sit back and expect to take queer people’s money without actually giving back to the queer community in any meaningful way.
That said, there are some big brands out there who’ve gotten the message and are actually trying to contribute. And some of them are making seriously bomb stuff. So, we’ve sifted through the many Pride collections to find our absolute faves from companies that donate as much as possible to queer organizations. Most of our picks are giving 100% of the proceeds away, and that’s something we can get behind.
