The Met Gala Served Up Some Surprisingly Wearable Makeup Looks

Pared-down makeup was the perfect complement to the night's campy fashion theme

The 2019 Met Gala theme of “Camp: Notes on Fashion” had us anticipating OTT gowns with trains for days, wild fabrics adorned with feathers and sequins, and glitter-fueled, drag-inspired makeup looks. And while the fashion certainly did not disappoint—you HAVE to see what Celine Dion dazzled in—we were kind of surprised to see the everlasting no-makeup makeup trend of pared-down beauty featuring glowing, dewy skin complement the most dramatic ensembles on fashion’s biggest night.

Co-chair Serena William let her fabulous floral gown—and neon Nike sneaks—steal the show, opting for a barely-there beauty look of matte skin and a hint of rosy blush. Mindy Kaling skipped a bold lip colour in favour of a sheer tint and gloss, while Yara Shahidi opted for body gems rather than eye shadow to create a subtle shimmer. The Olsen twins never leave home without their signature kohl eyeliner, but otherwise kept their makeup au naturel. And models Taylor Hill and Hailey Bieber both went for “your-face-but-better” looks to accentuate strong eyebrows, full lips and glowing skin.

Other stars on the pink carpet let their campy outfits do the talking, including Ashley Graham, Saoirse Ronan, Miley Cyrus and more! Scroll through to see all of the no-makeup Met Gala makeup looks that will inspire your own beauty looks alllllll summer long.
