Winning an Oscar may lead to divorce

A study suggests winning a Best Actress trophy means shorter marriages

A Canadian study said today that women who win the Best Actress trophy at the Academy Awards suffer more marital problems than their fellow nominees, a phenomenon that made headlines last year after Sandra Bullock split from husband Jesse James.

Researchers from the University of Toronto and Carnegie Mellon University examined Oscar hopefuls from 1936 to 2010 and found a correlation between women winning the top prize and having shorter marriages; best actor winners were unaffected by their success.

Here’s hoping the alleged curse won’t befall this year’s best actress frontrunner Natalie Portman.
