‘Call Me Maybe’ – it’s the breakout hit by Carly Rae Jepsen that we’ve all heard (and secretly sung) this year. It earned Jepsen four nominations at this year’s MuchMusic Video Awards: Video Of The Year, Pop Video Of The Year, Ur Fav Video and Ur Fav Artist. “It means everything to me,” the Mission, B.C. native says of the noms.
While Jepsen’s expecting the event to be Canadian chill (“It’s all the people from the industry that you love … it’s just a party,” she says), weighing her fashion options has been a touch more stressful. She’s considered the red-on-the-red-carpet trend that Hollywood stars such as Michelle Williams and Emma Stone showcased at the Oscars, but she’s not sure she can risk it in the summer sun. “I’m a pretty fair girl, so that might turn out badly,” she jokes.
The pop singer’s style has definitely solidified since being thrust into the spotlight, mixing an overall bohemian aesthetic with more downtown, polished pieces. Paying attention to her look is something Jepsen has had to do, since newfound fame appears to have a price: “All of a sudden going to the grocery store in my pajama bottoms isn’t very appropriate anymore,” she jokes. “Especially when the guy who’s putting apples out is like ‘can I get a picture of you for my daughter?’ You’re like ‘oh man, sure. From the top up please.’”
