Vancouver Film Critics Choose The Artist

Michel Hazanavicius's silent, black-and-white film is emerging as a leader in this upcoming awards season.

The Artist is the frontrunner for the upcoming Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards with four nominations. The silent film set in the 1930s is nominated in the international category for Best Film, Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin, and Best Screenplay. The Artist is receiving praise for filming in black and white and featuring almost no spoken dialogue. The Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards was created to celebrate the best in Canadian and international filmmaking and will take place on January 9th in Vancouver. Other frontrunners include The Tree of Life, The Descendants, and My Week With Marilyn. –Erin Fitzsimmons
