Taylor Swift has just landed her biggest role yet, as Éponine in the film adaptation of the musical Les Misérables. Swift beat out top leading ladies including Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood, who were all rumoured to be up for the role of a street urchin in love with a handsome soldier in pre-Revolutionary France. Her onscreen love rival Cosette will be played by Amanda Seyfried.
So far Swift has had roles in CSI and Valentine’s Day, but never a role with an Oscar-winning director. The film is being directed by The King’s Speech’s Tom Hooper and includes a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen. —Erin Fitzsimmons
Update: Swift will no longer play the role of Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation. Theatre star Samantha Barks will take on the job. A-list stars in the flick include: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crow, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried.
