The only thing better than a movie at TIFF? A live performance of a movie at TIFF! Juno director Jason Reitman will be hosting a live read of American Beauty tonight, hosted at the Ryerson Theatre at 6 p.m.

The cast list for tonight’s read is impressive: Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston will play the in-a-midlife-crisis Lester (originally played by Kevin Spacey), Christina Hendricks will star as his distressed wife Carolyn, and Toronto’s breakout star Sarah Gadon will play Angela, Lester’s object of affection. Secondary roles include Girls star Adam Driver as artsy next door neighbour Ricky, George Stroumboulopoulos as gay neighbour next door Jim, and Nick Kroll as the sleazy Buddy (who has an affair with Carolyn).

Reitman has been hosting live reads at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts since last October. Noteable past performances include The Breakfast Club (Jennifer Garner as Molly Ringwald’s Claire Standish) and The Apartment (Natalie Portman, Steve Carell). – Christian Allaire
