The Duchess of Sussex’s controversial dad has gone to the press to deliver yet another message to the royal fam—and this time, he’s gone too far.
In an interview with The Sun published on July 15, Markle expressed fear that the Duchess of Sussex was “struggling to cope” with her new duties after her wedding to Prince Harry. When asked about his daughter, he says: “my thing about my daughter right now is I think she is terrified. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing right now.” And Markle doesn’t think her new smize is simply staged for the cameras. According to him, it’s a “pained smile.”
This begs the question: How would he know? It’s not like Meghan is keeping her dad up-to-date on her new life; during the same interview, Markle shares some other thoughts related to the royal family—right down to what he refers to as the “ridiculous” family dress code—and also claims the newlyweds have outright “shunned” him.
“I spoke to Meghan and Harry briefly after the wedding,” Markle says. (If you’ll recall, he didn’t attend the nuptials after undergoing heart surgery, but his attendance was likely already in jeopardy thanks to drama surrounding selling photos from a staged shoot.) “They were talking about coming to visit me. I spoke to them both and wished them a happy honeymoon. That was the last call,” he says—before noting that he’s been unable to reach the royal couple since that day. “The phone number that I call doesn’t work anymore,” he tells The Sun. “The… liaison with the royal family never answers back, and there’s no address I can write to so I have no way of contacting my daughter.”
Markle continues to pile on some additional guilt regarding Meghan’s alleged radio silence, telling The Sun that he fears he may not have much longer to live. “I had a heart attack, doesn’t anybody care? I could actually die soon” he says. “Does she want this to be the last thing we’ve said to each other?”
Frankly, it’s ridiculous *and* sad that Markle continues to pain Meghan by airing out their personal business to the press—the same behaviour that proved to be a less-than-productive means of making amends prior to the royal wedding. Two months later, Markle is back on his bullshit and seemingly hasn’t learned a thing. Maybe that’s what Meghan’s “pained” smile is really all about???
